Camping Checklist - Are you sure you have what you need for your camping adventure??

A Camping Checklist can help you make sure you don't forget something important. Take a moment to review these suggestions. You may want to modify this for your own list. A Camping checklist is used heavily in scouting. Camping is used in Scouting to teach self-reliance and team work.

With costs rising (for just about everything), Camping is a great experience. Camping is an inexpensive way to stay at your sightseeing destination.

If you seek a rugged experience in the outdoors - camp with only tents (or even 'Under the Stars'). The types of camping range from very primitive to quite elaborate. The RV is on the elaborate end of the spectrum, including options such as air conditioning, bathrooms, kitchens, showers, and home theatre systems. Survivalist camping requires some special skills. Some people are trained in survivalist camping. Your camping Checklist won't need be as long for this type of outdoor experience.

Camping is often combined with other activities. Some activities enjoyed include hiking, climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming, and fishing. Camping is often combined with backpacking. Backpackers use lightweight equipment that can be carried long distances on foot.

While sightseeing, you will find different types of campsites. Many campgrounds have sites with facilities such as fire rings, barbecue grills, utilities, shared bathrooms and laundry, as well as close access to recreational facilities. Some, however can be just a patch of dirt - maybe with sewer and electricity.

Add a bicycle to your Camping Checklist. It may be a good idea to go camping with a bicycle. You can cover much more ground on a bicycle than by foot. A great Camping Checklist item is a Motorcycle. For a real sense of freedom, go camping with a motorcycle. Pack the Motorcycle similar to how you would for Backpacking or Bicycling.

The following is a sample Camping Checklist.

Cooking
* A tripod chained grill or Dutch oven can be used for cooking on a campfire. A portable stove can be used where campfires are forbidden or impractical. If using a campground with electricity an electric frying pan or slow cooker can be used.
* Beverages or portable water filter for areas that have access to rivers or lakes.
* Campers at modern campgrounds will normally bring perishable foods in coolers while backcountry campers will bring non-perishable foods such as dried fruits, nuts, jerky, and MREs.
* Chuck box to hold camp kitchen items for food preparation, consumption and cleanup.
* Cooler to store perishables and beverages. If electricity is available, a thermoelectric or sterling engine cooler can be used without the need for ice.
* Fire starter or other ignition device for starting a campfire.
* Folding chairs for placement around campfire.
* Hatchet, axe or saw for cutting firewood for a campfire.
* Tarp for adding additional layer of storm protection to a tent, and to shelter dining areas.

Clothes
* Clothing: Shoes, Flip Flops, Socks, Toiletries, Swim Suit
* Hiking boots
* Personal care products and towel
* Raincoat or poncho

Safety/Health
* First aid kit
* Insect repellent
* Lantern or flashlight
* Sunscreen for protecting the skin.
* Trash bags particularly one with handles can be tied to a tree limb, or clothesline off the ground. For handling of waste in backcountry.

Shelter/Sleep your chance make your camp site a home!!
* Ground cloth/tarp
* Hammer to drive tent stakes into soil. - Extra stakes
* Tent
* Ropes for stringing clothes line and for securing the shelter.
* Sheets//Pillow/Sleeping bag and/or blankets for warmth.
* Sleeping pad or air mattress is placed underneath the sleeping bag for cushioning from stones and twigs as well as for insulation from the ground. - pump for air mattress.

Recreational
* Camera
* Fishing pole

You may wish to alter this list depending on how you plan to go sightseeing, and what the camp site you visit offers. This is not an all-inclusive Camping Checklist.
