Coleman Canoe

Coleman Canoe - Relaxing; peace and happiness await on the water.

Get away from the Cell phone and listen to the quiet swishing of your paddles along the water. Being near and on the water is purely relaxing. Some say that the experience is similar to meditating. Everyone should take the time to enjoy the peace of mind the water offers. It is amazing the way things appear when viewed from the water. The different times of day each bring a different experience. Spend some time with the different creatures enjoying the water in a Coleman Canoe.

Consider the material when making a buying decision. The length and storage needed will depend on the number of people going along.

Types

* Strip-built - Sold in kits and finished models. Strips of wood are glued together. A transparent fiberglass coating is often applied inside and out. Cedar and Pine are used for the strips.

* Glued Plywood Lapstrake - Made from planks of plywood. The planks are glued together along the length. This is a more traditional-looking result that resists leaking.

* Stitch and glue - The panels are cut from plywood. They are connected with wire or plastic ties. The plywood is forced into shape. Fiberglass tape and epoxy are used as reinforcement.

* Aluminum - Lighter and stronger construction than wood. These tend to sink easier unless there is flotation in the ends. They can also be noisy.

* Synthetic - Made from kevlar, fiberglass, and carbon. These are strong, light, and easy to maneuver. They are easy to carry. Although durable, they can be more expensive.

* Synthetic - ABS , otherwise known as "Royalex" is durable and flexible. This is good for whitewater. They will return to original shape after a collision with rocks.

* Synthetic - Also used in whitewater. Made from polyethylene. Heavier and less expensive. The Ram-X Coleman Canoe is an example of this type.

Each type has different advantages. An aluminum version is less fragile than a wood-and-canvas one, but the wood/canvas version is quieter. The more noise there is, the fewer animals will be seen. A good one for enjoying the wild is the light, yet tough Kevlar. The touring type is spacious and comfortable.
