Way back in the 1900's, somewhere in Wisconsin, experimentation began. Some of the early models were converted Model T's and bicycles with runners and fins. Carl Eliason created a prototype of the modern one back in 1924. The first 'real' one was built by Edgar and Allen Hetteen and David Johnson. The company name was Hetteen Hoist & Derrick Co. It later became Polaris Industries, one of the largest manufacturers in the industry of the Polaris Snomobile. Did you know that older snowmobiles used rubber tracks? The tracks on todays models are Kevlar. Things have certainly changed.

  • Vintage snowmobiling - Becoming more popular in Canada. Raced with older snowmobiles.
