As the capitol of Colorado, it is well known as Mile High City. Do you know why it was given that name? The elevation is exactly one mile high - 5,280 feet. It all began in 1858 as a mining town. The Pikes Peak Gold Rush was in full force back in those days. The Wall Street of the West, along 17th street is where you will find the corporate buildings, and the financial center. Some great museums are waiting to be explored such as the Denver Art Museum. The house that Clyfford Still, an abstract expressionist painter lived in may become a museum to show off his work. The neighborhoods each offer several different types of character. You can view skyscrapers to suburban style developments, and even turn of the twentieth century houses. Some well-known neighborhoods are LoDo (short for "Lower Downtown"), Uptown, Capitol Hill, Washington Park, Alamo Placita, Highland, Lowry, Golden Triangle, Curtis Park, and Park Hill.
